Most of us have been there and know that baby showers can be dull and predictable. A celebration of a new life should be exactly that – full of life! Inject some humor into a baby shower with a few creative and unusual ideas.
Pin The Umbilical Cord on the Fetus
A spin-off of the old “Pin The Tail on the Donkey” game, you can use a generic fetus photo for this; but if you can get an actual ultrasound photo from the mom-to-be, it is a lot more fun! Make an enlargement of the ultrasound photo. About 24 inches long is a good size and most photo labs can create that size print. Smaller sizes can be done with a home scanner and printer.
Trace the umbilical cord in the enlarged photo and cut out multiple “umbilical cords” out of construction paper. Hang the photo on the wall and attach removable tape to the back of the umbilical cords. You can write each player’s name on the end of the cord to help determine the winner. Blindfold each player, spin them around a few times and then have then attempt to attach the cord as close to its position on the photo as possible. Whoever comes closest wins!
Take the Easter-time egg hunt to a new level and liven up your baby shower! Buy white, plastic eggs, instead of the pastel ones, or use white Styrofoam egg shapes which can be found at most craft stores. Using a black permanent marker, draw a “sperm” shape on one of the eggs. Hide all the “ovaries” around the room – whoever finds the fertilized egg wins!
Musical Dirty Diaper
A combination of musical chairs and hot potato, this game is sure to get a few laughs. Have your guests sit or stand in a circle and then play some music. Take an unused diaper and tell your guests this is the “dirty diaper” and the object will be to pass it around until the music stops. Whoever has the diaper when the music stops is out. The last guest standing is the winner! For added humor, feel free to color the inside of the diaper with marker. Use your imagination!
Baby Photo Match
Ask guests ahead of time to provide you with one of their baby photos. You can include this information on the invitation. Make a collage of the photos and number them. Hand each guest a piece of paper and a pen and ask them to write down which numbered photo corresponds to which guest. If your guests do not know each other well, make name tags for them to wear so they can be identified. The goal is to find the person who gets the most right answers. Be sure to make yourself an answer key!
Incorporate a few of these entertaining games into your party and get ready for a Baby Shower that your guests will be talking about for years!
